And that, dear flower friends, was May.

What is it about May? I've no idea why so many couples choose it to marry in, I blame the peony season!
And what a month it has been too, fourteen beautiful flower filled weddings. Yes it was hectic, yes I worked blooming hard, up to 18 hours some days. As a midwife on-call, I don't think I physically worked as hard as I do as a florist although I grant you, the stress and skill required in delivering a healthy baby into the twenty first century, is in another league, and no I'll never return to practise if only because I can't be doing with the stress or bureaucracy. I love being a florist, albeit one that can technically deliver a baby as well as a bouquet!
I've had help in the form of Susannah, florist behind Tiger Rose Floral Design, currently on a sabbatical year she's been an absolute star. During our stints in the work room, we've managed to put the world to rights as well as talk endlessly about our other passion - food. More than this, she's a brilliant florist. Thanks Zanna.

Anyhow, June beckons with what can only be described as a steadier flow of weddings and with all the promise that only mid summer can offer. In my garden I am picking roses, alchemilla and salvias, trails of honeysuckle, jasmine and soon there'll be sweet peas. I'm adding all these home grown touches to my bouquets and arrangements.

One more thing. Is it me or does life speed up as one gets older? It appears half the year has gone already. Perhaps it's just that time flies when you're having fun.
